Burslem Pottery.

Burslem Pottery, in its present form. Established in 2006. Acquiring the moulds and design rights of Cobridge Stoneware. A pottery recently closed down. That had been a company within the Moorcroft group of companies.

Including the designs aqcquired. The Grotesque Birds designs.  Designed by Andew Hull. Inspired by the designs of Martin Brothers.

The new owner Tracy Bently. Who had worked for Moorcroft and Cobridge Stoneware. Well known by the collectors of Moorcroft and Cobridge Stoneware. And continues produce pottery in the Cobridge Stoneware style. Including the Grotesque Birds.

Vases are hand cast. Prior to the first firing. Whilst the vase is still in the clay state. The design is hand drawn onto the vase. Then the drawing is etched into the clay. A method known a “sgraffifo”.

At that point the vase is ready for its firing. Which is a high temperature firing. As soon as this firing is completed. And cooled down. It is ready for hand painting. Using different colour oxide glazes. Then fired for the second and final time.

A process that takes a total of five to six working days to complete.

Using these techniques means that each vase produced is different and unique.
