Burslem Pottery Grotesque Bird Boris the Gangster.

This Burslem Pottery Grotesque Bird Boris the Gangster. Jar and Cover. Designed and modelled by Andrew Hull. In 2005 for Cobridge Stoneware. Then part of the Moorcroft Group of companies.

Boris portrays an ex gangster. Who has seen a thing or two during his lifetime. His beak has been pummelled. Following his many fights. His face shows the scars of a hard life.

The designs for the Grotesque Birds. Were inspired from the designs of Martin Brothers. Potters well known for their “grotesque” designs. At the end of the nineteeth, and the beginning of the twentieth century.

Burslem Pottery established in 2006. Acquired the designs and moulds from Cobridge Stoneware. After its closure earlier in that year. Now owned by ex employee of Cobridge Stoneware. Tracy Bently. Together with other colleagues who previously worked at Cobridge Stoneware, They continue to produce the Grotesque Birds. To exactly the same high standard as Cobridge Stoneware.

Accordingly Burslem Pottery products.  Are hand crafted and hand painted. Produced in their studio. Based in Stoke on Trent.
